Locals Guide to Dining in Port Douglas

Date Posted: November 26, 2020

Devouring Port Douglas' deliciousness won't be a problem with our insider's guide to the tasty treasure trove of fresh seafood, local produce, and sugar-laden desserts ready for you to ravage.  An encyclopaedia of all things food in the local area, the Paradise Links team can deliver every gastronomic reality to your holiday, whether you're looking to indulge in a fully catered, privately prepared banquet or a DIY barbecue.

The Private Chef

For the ultimate holiday luxury - someone doing everything for you - think private chef for your stay.  Aside from creating exquisite menus from breakfast to dinner and everything in between, you won't have to do the shopping, the preparation or most importantly, the dishes!  Together with a selection of gourmet caterers, Paradise Links will ensure you don't have to lift a wooden spoon for either one or two sneaky dinners or the entirety of your holiday.

The Great Aussie Surf n' Turf Barbie

If you can't bear an entire holiday without demonstrating your culinary prowess, tap into your inner Master Chef with a barbecue pack from Malone's butchery.  From gourmet sausages to baby beef wellingtons and chicken skewers to greek style butterflied lamb complete with freshly made, matched condiments, you'll be the envy of everyone at the poolside BBQ area.  Take it to the next level and pair your paradise barbecue with a summer pack of craft beer from local brewery Hemingway's.  It doesn't get more local than beer brewed with water from the pristine Mossman river!

If you're lucky enough to have a fisherman with you who has managed to land a big one, your barbecue will be next level.  If the fishing fails, ask the team if local prawn trawler 'Santiago' is in town.  Selling succulent seafood straight off the back deck, indulge in afternoon prawns on the balcony before whipping up a seafood marinara with fresh scallops or Aussie inspired surf n' turf.

The Perfect Picnic

Port's endless natural spaces are a picnicker's dream, so if it's lunch you're after or a gourmet cheese plate for sundowners, let us know.

Grant Street Kitchen in town is famed for two distinct delights - your daily dose of flakey pastry buttery bliss and hunger-busting gourmet rolls bursting with juicy turkey and creamy brie. Back it up with a lemon curd filled cronut, and your lunch is complete.

Go gourmet with a fully catered heavenly hamper brimming with local fare from Port's finest caterers.  Have our team pre-order everything for you, and we'll have it waiting for collection, complete with an esky so you can trip around the region knowing your tummy will be taken care of.

DIY Market Master Chef

Crisp veg and luscious fruit doesn't come fresher than direct from the farm. Saturday's in Mossman host the local market stuffed full of plump, locally grown exotic fruits and greens, herbs, spices and veggies. Add a local flavour twist to your dinner with goat chorizo, kombucha, kimchi, honey, riberry and Davidson plum jams or pineapple and mango chutneys. Grab a homemade dessert from the displays of delectable old school cakes and slices that would make even Grandma drool.

An extra five minutes down the road, and open every day, you'll discover local gem Scomazzons.  A family-run farmgate, Scomazzons will fill your basket with home-grown, seasonal produce tractored straight from the paddock.  Warning - you won't be able to slide by the baked goods cabinet, stocked each day with treats from other local producers.

The Port Douglas market has you covered on Sunday morning.  If you're game, try the fruit poo. If not, the freshly squeezed mandarin juice is heaven on a hot day.  Join the local doughnut debate at artisan baker Duke's Doughnuts - Bueno custard-filled, Nutella bro-nut or Strawberry Shortcake? Can't decide? Grab a packet of Duke's Master Dough Mix and turn your villa into a bakery - we're available anytime to taste test your creations.

Then there's the restaurants to consider …

And if all else fails, there's always the snack fridge in reception to satiate your sugar cravings!
